One of the top women’s collegiate basketball programs is set to finalize the field for this year’s edition of GLOBL JAM.
The Texas Longhorns, a No. 1 seed and Final Four participant in this past March Madness, will represent Team USA as they get set to square off against host Canada, Puerto Rico and Brazil in the third edition of the U-23 tournament.
A powerhouse program, the Longhorns exploded in their first season in the SEC, earning a 35-4 record, with three of those losses coming to the South Carolina Gamecocks. The final defeat came at the Final Four.
“University of Texas brings strong traditions of basketball excellence,” Michael Bartlett, Canada Basketball president and CEO said in a statement. “As the 24-25 SEC co-champions and their advancement to the Final Four, we’re proud to welcome this storied program and their fans to GLOBL JAM this August.”
Leading the way for Texas is superstar forward Madison Booker, who was named SEC Player of the Year for the 2024-25 season and earned a spot on the AP All-America first team. She’s expected to be a top pick at the 2027 WNBA Draft.
“This is an incredible platform for our athletes to gain experience against elite global talent,” Longhorns head coach Vic Schaefer said. “We’re honoured to participate and look forward to taking the court in Toronto.”
The last edition of the GLOBL JAM tournament was played in 2023, with the United States defeating Canada in both the men’s and women’s gold-medal games. The University of Louisville, led by current WNBA guard Hailey Van Lith, represented Team USA on the women’s side.
The men’s and women’s tournaments will run from Aug. 13-17 at Toronto Metropolitan University’s Mattamy Athletic Centre. All games will be broadcast on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
The men’s tournament will feature teams from Canada, the United States, Brazil and Japan.
