Maple Leafs record dubious marks in Game 7 loss to Panthers

The fans booing the Toronto Maple Leafs late in the second period had every right to be displeased with the on-ice product.

The Leafs somehow managed to record an NHL season-worst stat through two periods on Sunday in Game 7 against the Florida Panthers, who went on to win the game 6-1

Per Sportsnet Stats, the Leafs allowed 75 shot attempts in the first two periods. That’s the most allowed by any team in the first two periods of a game in the 2024-25 regular season or playoffs.

The Panthers dominated play for long stretches of the first two periods and erupted for three goals in the second to take a 3-0 lead.

Florida also had a goal disallowed in the second period. You could easily argue the Leafs were lucky not to be down by more than three after two.

Florida had a 25-12 edge in shots on goal through 40 minutes.

The Leafs also ended up matching an NHL record for the largest margin of defeat by a home team in a Game 7.

And, to add to the misery, Toronto now owns the second-longest losing streak in NHL history in winner-take-all games after losing its eighth in a row in that scenario. Only the New York Rangers (10 from 1937-84) have lost more consecutive winner-take-all games.
