Steve Nash officially has company.
It’s now seven straight years that a player born outside the U.S. won MVP, extending the longest such streak in league history.
The Hamilton, Ont., native averaged 32.7 points, 6.4 assists and five rebounds per game this season, leading the Thunder to a 68-14 record.
“As a kid dreaming about the game, it’s always in the back of your mind,” Gilgeous-Alexander said in an interview with TNT after the award was officially announced.
Much like Nash nearly 20 years ago, Gilgeous-Alexander’s MVP win was special to those north of the border.
