Canadian centre back Vanessa Gilles has found a new home in Munich.
Gilles has signed a contract with the FC Bayern Women that is valid until June 30, 2028. With the move, she leaves her current NWSL club Angel City FC, to play in the Bavarian state capital.
The Châteauguay, Que. native is already used to professional play in Europe after spending the last three seasons on loan with Olympique Lyonnais.
“Everyone knows Munich, everyone knows the history of this great club. I’m looking forward to working with a team that have represented high ambitions for many years. That’s a very good fit for my goals, be it at domestic level or in the Champions League. In addition, the family environment around the whole club impressed me a lot from the start. I want to provide security and stability in defence.”
Gilles also has experience representing Canada on the world stage. She made her debut with the national team in 2019 and was part of the squad when they brought home a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
