Blue Jays reinstate Andres Gimenez, Tyler Heineman from injured list

As the Toronto Blue Jays prepare to host the first contest of a three-game set against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday, they’ll be getting some reinforcements.

The team announced two players will be returning, infielder Andrés Giménez (right quad strain) from the 10-day injured list and catcher Tyler Heineman (concussion) from the seven-day IL.

Both players will be active Tuesday night against Philadelphia.

Subsequent to those moves, the Blue Jays designated infielder Michael Stefanic and catcher Ali Sánchez for assignment.

Giménez, in his first season with Toronto, played in 36 games prior to being sidelined. The one-time all-star is slashing .195/.273/.305 through 128 at-bats in 2025 for three home runs and 10 RBIs. He’s also stolen a team-best nine bases.

The 26-year-old last played in a 5-4 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on May 7, going 1-for-3 with a run.

Meanwhile, Heineman makes his return after last having played on May 22 in an extra-inning win against the San Diego Padres. He went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

The backup catcher is slashing .396/.412/.542 for 10 runs, six RBIs and one homer through his 48 at-bats.

The pair will look to help the Blue Jays continue their climb up the AL East standings after a four-game sweep of the Athletics improved the team to 31-28, now second in the division and 5.5 games back of the New York Yankees.

Catch first pitch at 7:07 p.m. ET / 4:07 p.m. PT on Sportsnet or Sportsnet+.
