Khaos Williams will remain on the UFC 316 preliminary card and face Andreas Gustafsson this weekend in Newark, N.J.
The short-notice bout between aggressive welterweight strikers was confirmed Monday.
This is the third opponent Williams has been connected to for this event. Williams was initially scheduled to face Uros Medic at the June 7 event, but Medic withdrew from the bout last week due to what Medic described as a “stubborn sinus infection” that had affected his training, breathing and recovery and required antibiotics.
Williams was then briefly connected to UFC newcomer Albert Tadevosyan, who stated he was unable to complete his pre-fight medicals.
Gustafsson was slated to participate in a catchweight bout against Trevin Giles this past weekend at a Fight Night event in Las Vegas, however, Giles was unable to weigh in on the eve of their scheduled bout and the matchup was cancelled. According to Gustafsson, Giles fell and hit his head while cutting weight.
Williams (15-4) is 4-2 in his past six outings and coming off a submission loss to Gabriel Bonfim in February. The 31-year-old American has nine UFC appearances since 2020.
Gustafsson (11-2) will be making his UFC debut after earning a contract off a win on the Contender Series last August. The 34-year-old from Sweden withdrew from his scheduled debut in January against Preston Parsons, and before Giles was scheduled to face Jeremiah Wells on the May 31 card.
