Tynan Lawrence is showing why he’s considered a candidate to be a first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
The Fredericton native was named USHL playoff MVP after his Muskegon Lumberjacks beat the Waterloo Black Hawks 4-3 in overtime in a winner-take-all Game 5 of the championship series on Tuesday night.
Lawrence, 16, had a goal on Tuesday. He finished the playoffs with eight goals and 10 assists in 14 games.
The six-foot-centre played the previous two years at Shattuck-St. Mary’s in Minnesota before opting for the USHL. He was picked 10th overall by the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in the 2024 QMJHL Draft.
Lawrence, who has a verbal commitment to Boston University, had 25 goals and 29 assists for 54 points in 56 games during the regular season. He also was named to the USHL’s all-rookie team.
Jack Christ scored the overtime winner for Muskegon to give the Lumberjacks the championship.
